Director Ignas Jonynas made a notable debut at our theatre three decades ago. However, he later shifted to filmmaking and became one of the most interesting creators of contemporary Lithuanian cinema. During breaks between creating new films, I. Jonynas returned to the Youth Theatre. For his new production, he chose the play "The Son" by contemporary French playwright Florian Zeller. This is the final part of the dramatic trilogy that brought F. Zeller to fame (the other two being "The Father" and "The Mother"). This playwright, who has conquered world stages, delves into sensitive and relevant themes deeply rooted in the everyday life of many families. They revolve around the psychological and spiritual traumas of modern humans, which are often hidden as they do not conform to societal standards.

The play "The Son" was inspired by F. Zeller's personal experience. He has two sons, and he dedicated the play to one of them, who suffers from a mental illness. "I am familiar with these emotions, and some situations are not unfamiliar to me. As a father, I felt powerless - it seemed like I was completely alone. In 'The Son,' I share my emotions, trying to help those experiencing them and fighting against the shame." - says F. Zeller. It was important for him to talk about mental illness, rejecting taboos: "We should talk about it openly, feeling that we are not alone on this journey, and that there is no shame in asking for help when facing a crisis. Now so many people feel pain. It seems we are experiencing a major health crisis after COVID, and many do not know how to deal with it, also because they feel guilt and shame."
